Service Description
Working with domestic abuse clients is complicated work. Sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming, not just the session content, but also the interaction between you and the client. It takes a very particular set of skills to be able to work with this client group. If you have had that experience of not being quite sure what is going on, this training may very well be the right training for you. In this session, you will be introduced the Domestic Abuse Counselling (DAC) model, together with the competency framework for counsellors working in this area, so that you can understand some of the challenges and pitfalls involved and why training in this specialism can be particularly helpful. The event will also introduce the Domestic Abuse Counselling Training Course. The DACTC is a big commitment for trainee and qualified practitioners, taking 4 very full days. This free event allows you to ask any questions you might have before booking. For example: Why is domestic abuse counselling a specialism? Why do we have breaks between the days, rather than just one week of training? How is this training different to the training I had to qualify as a counsellor? What are the benefits of doing the training? What will I learn? Why don't you offer training on a Saturday? This event is a Q&A with Dr Jeannette Roddy, who leads the training course. Jeannette has worked and conducted research into this area for over 15 years and is the author of two books on domestic abuse counselling. This is your opportunity to ask Jeannette any questions which she is more than happy to answer. She is looking forward to meeting you at the event! Please note that this event is to introduce the training, not to complete any training on the day.

Cancellation Policy
Training sessions can be booked up to 1-day in advance, where places are still available. Where places are already taken, we can offer a waitlist option, should places become available. In the unlikely event that there are insufficient numbers for the course to go ahead 28 days before it is due to start, we reserve the right to cancel the course. In this instance, we will give you a choice of receiving a full refund at that time or moving your booking to the next available course. Payment is due at the time of booking and is non-refundable within 28 days of the start of the course. This is to ensure that the course can still run for remaining participants. The course is run online using Zoom. Delegates are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary software and an appropriate internet connection to be able to utilise the training. Delegates must provide an accurate email address on booking to allow the receipt of training materials and online training links.
