Service Description

This one-day workshop, for qualified and trainee counsellors, will provide delegates with an understanding of the theory of Compassionate Mind Training and its practical applications. You will explore the theoretical underpinnings of the model, which will include: 1.    When CMT might be helpful for your client. 2.    How to bring CMT into your client work and use it within your own self-care package. 3.    Orientation, philosophy, and history of the model. 4.    Rationale for cultivating self-compassion. 5.    The psychology of compassion. 6.    Overview of research evidence. 7.    Why we need compassion (self-care, self-practice, and self-reflection). 8.    Why compassion can be difficult. 9.    The three flows of compassion. Practical skills will include: 10.   Exploration of compassion skills – attention and mindfulness. 11.   Cultivating the foundations of compassion. 12.   Experiencing compassion as a flow. 13.   Exploration of values and how creating valued directions can help both practitioners and clients. 14.   Gratitude and self-compassion. 15.   Developing a compassionate self. 16.   Creating an ideal compassionate other. 17.   How creating Pre, During and After Plans (PDA Plans) can help our clients and ourselves plan for difficult situations. 18.   Cultivating our future self. Trainer Dr Elaine Beaumont is a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist, compassion focused therapist and Europe-approved eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing practitioner. She is a lecturer at the University of Salford, where her research explores the impact Compassionate Mind Training and Compassion Focused Therapy has in educational, healthcare and clinical settings. Elaine provides a variety of workshops regarding mental health, compassion and wellbeing for organisations, and her research has been presented worldwide.
